The Shift

Occupy Wall Street (AKA Occupy Main Street) -Any town, USA is changing corporate America. If it doesn’t, it should.

The recession has caused a new wave of thinking about employment, profits, incentives and the manner in which you train employees. Just as the Great Depression caused our parents and grandparents to have a “Depression Era Mentality,” this recession will take on characteristics of its own.

Employees want to work for companies that hear them. They want to be rewarded based on their accomplishments. They want to work for companies that do something more for the world then just make a profit. They want information, they want to be heard and they want to be understood.

This may seem weird. Some may say, “Well with unemployment at 9.5%, I (the employer) can do what I want.” Companies with this mindset will fail.

My mom always said, “With all really bad stuff comes some real gifts…”

Hopefully, those gifts are how we reinvent our companies to make them more socially conscious and employee centered.
