A Gift for my Mother-in-law

THE BEACH
The beach teaches me to sit not stand
Watching parents tow toddlers by hand
Sighting Seagulls soar in flight
Fluttering in currents reaching new heights
The beach teaches me to sit not stand
As the children build castles out of sand
Lovers, drawing hearts in the sand with sticks
Driftwood steadfast in shore with weathered nicks
The beach teaches me to sit not stand
The sea breeze blowing each hair by strand
Bon fires that light the skies aglow
Roasted marshmallows inviting a blow
The beach teaches me to sit not stand
As I dream of a ballad from my favorite band
As I sit here my life passes in slow motion
What stupendous medicine this great ocean
The beach teaches me to sit not stand.
